YORENKA TASORENTSI

Planting seeds for our future

About Yorenka

Yorenka Tasorentsi is an Indigenous-led Institution that integrates traditional knowledge with modern techniques as a response to current planetary challenges. We address ecological, cultural and social issues in an integrative manner to create a globally adaptable model for conscious and sustainable land stewardship. Our work is focused on regenerating and preserving the Amazon Rainforest to guarantee a future where all living beings can live in harmony with nature.

OUR FOUNDATIONS V1

ECOLOGY

Our dedication to reforesting degraded areas in the Municipality of Marechal Thaumaturgo—where the Institute is located—is celebrated globally. The Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute’s founder Benki Piyãko, has been engaged for decades in reforestation projects and the protection of water sources and river basins in the Upper Juruá Region in Brazil, the Ucayali Region in Peru, which support the biodiversity of the entire region.

CULTURE

Indigenous knowledge and the Earth’s biodiversity are inherently connected. Benki Piyãko established the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute to safeguard the traditional spiritual wisdom of Indigenous Peoples, which has been developed and advanced over millennia, and is crucial for our planet’s protection.

SOCIAL

The Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute is focused on enhancing living conditions and promoting economic stability within our region. Through revenue generation, fixed food prices, and sustainable alternatives, we contribute to improved well-being and living conditions for the community. The project includes agroforestry training for young people and serves as a model for reducing deforestation in the Amazon and beyond. We believe this model can inspire replication within indigenous and non-indigenous communities, empowering individuals and fostering sustainability for a more equitable and resilient future.

HEALTH

In today’s world, we grapple with the repercussions of overwork, illness, and the loss of our connection to nature through technological advancement. Pollution and unhealthy lifestyles take their toll on our well-being, and we risk losing sight of what truly matters. The Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute provides retreats designed to help people rediscover their connection with nature and themselves, offering healing and restoring balance.

GLOBAL

Through the implementation of conscious and sustainable practices rooted in Indigenous wisdom, we are establishing a replicable model that inspires and serves both our local region and the global community to preserve and regenerate nature. The Institute is connected to a regional and international network of environmental and human rights defenders that support and inspire our endeavors.
